Because the .dmg is Universal, there is nothing to choose between chips — the same file runs natively whether your Mac has an Apple Silicon (M-series) or an Intel processor. Install step by step

Click Download .dmg above to get the file from the official v1.9.2 release.
Open the downloaded .dmg — a window shows the MMEX icon and an Applications shortcut.
Drag the MMEX icon onto the Applications folder to copy it in.
Eject the disk image, then open Money Manager Ex from Launchpad or Applications.
Create a new database file — this single file holds your data and can be AES-256 encrypted. Nothing leaves your Mac.

The first time you open a freshly released open-source app, macOS Gatekeeper may say it is "from an unidentified developer." This is expected. Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon and choose Open, then confirm; or go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

System requirements

The macOS build is a Universal binary, so the same .dmg runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3 and later) and older Intel Macs. It needs a recent version of macOS, only a few hundred megabytes of free space and runs well on any modern Mac. Your finances are kept in one local SQLite file, which you can store anywhere in your home folder or in a synced folder such as iCloud Drive.

Updating and removing MMEX

To update, download the newest .dmg from the download hub, open it and drag the new Money Manager Ex over the old copy in Applications — your data file stays where it is. To remove the app, drag it from Applications to the Trash; your database file is not deleted, so keep a backup of it or delete it separately if you no longer need your records. If you also use the phone app, the iOS companion syncs through your own cloud folder rather than a company server.
